Mass Call-In to CNN Monday, July 11, 2011

Join us in a coordinated mass call-in to CNN on behalf of Leonard Peltier. Shut CNN down until they realize they have a story.

On Monday, July 11th, at 10 a.m. (Eastern Time), start calling with your statement. It is important that the calls to CNN start promptly at 10 a.m. Insist that they cover the injustice posed by the continuing imprisonment of Leonard Peltier. Advise them of Leonard’s current situation (see http://lpdoc.blogspot.com/2011/07/leonard-peltier-in-hole-at-lewisburg.html), and tell CNN personnel that they should contact the Leonard Peltier Defense Offense Committee at 701-235-2206 for information and referrals.

Then call back and ask for specific news anchors to cover/respond. Remember to be firm, but polite. Tell them freedom for Peltier is the only solution to this 35+-year injustice.

They may tell you that they get their stories from their affiliates (local) channels. While this is true, it is also true that they cover both whatever they wish and stories that demand coverage. We MUST demand coverage.

Call CNN at 404-827-1500 at 10 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2011.

Dial one for both of the first and second automated prompts/choices.

You also may submit story ideas online. Visit http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form11e.html to submit a story idea or http://www.cnn.com/feedback/tips/newstips.html to submit a news tip.

Or Tweet them: @TeamCNN.

Ben Carnes - Activist

I need to fly to DCA (Washington, DC) from DFW on June 19th and return on the evening of June 20th.

I am scheduled to speak at the Fairness Hearing regarding the Cobell Settlement at 10 AM on June 20th.

My position is that the case was about gaining a full accounting of the mismanaged (stolen) funds from our accounts. It was about losing more land in the process from families who already have little, and the fair market value doesn’t include the price of the sovereignty that is attached to the land as our intrinsic right, or a 10 year time limit on use of educational funding.

I’m in opposition to what amounts to a cover up, because if the settlement is approved, then we are told we waive any future claims. The theft of our funds is a violation of the fiduciary trust relationship the government holds. If they cannot be trusted, then the proper remedy would be the dissolution of the Bureau of Indian Affairs and criminal prosecution of those responsible. Once justice is served, then they can talk about what is truly owed to us.

There are 19 of us who are scheduled to speak at this hearing. Just a few out of several hundred thousand who are members of this class action lawsuit, who filed an objection and a notice to speak at the hearing. We all hope to make our voice count for many of those who could not appear or believed they could make a difference. We’ve been made to feel that there is nothing that can be done to stand in the way of the government and corporations when they want something. The most important thing here is that we just cannot sit back and be silent! Our lands will be there forever, but the measly crumbs they will send out in checks will be gone in just a few days.

I have these three type of Leonard Peltier litho’s to select from. I can give two of each, and they sell for $60 on up. They were give to me by the committee a few years ago as a gift and to do with as I needed. If anyone has the frequent flier miles to secure me a plane ticket, I’ll be more than happy to send these to you.

Hawkman 2
4 for sale
Medicine Man
none for sale

You can reach me privately at my email: bencarnes@rocketmail.com or if you want to purchase any that are for sale below, that would also be helpful in covering some of my expenses for this trip. I’ve reserved two of each for anyone who can get me a flight, which means someone is getting the last two “Medicine Man” litho’s I have left.

Lyrics:

Leonard Peltier sleeps in a prison tonight

For 400 years he’s lived with justice washed white

His crime was tradition spoken with pride

And the evidence that put him there

Was deliberately falsified

And the government spends a lot of money

To keep the red man quiet

He should say what he wants to say

And it’s time we listened

He should pray where he wants to pray

Without asking permission

And trouble they brought some

They were pawns in the big game

They were sacrificed in profit’s name

And what would you do?

As you stare into the face of

The genocide of your people

Put yourself in the place of
